Career Exploration

Start When You are Young

Employers are quite forgiving to job hoppers that are young. However, the older you get, the less they will like job hopping.  In fact, it can make it very difficult to get another job.

Change a Lot – Try out a lot of Careers

When you are young person, try out as many careers as possible.  Don’t focus on longevity, but on finding yourself.  If you know something is not right, let it go quickly and keep moving until you know you have the right thing.

A lot of adults find out later that they never took the time to get to know themselves.  This can leave people feeling trapped because they need to pay bills and don’t feel like they can just take time off to find out what they want. That is why it is very important for young people to have a chance to find themselves.

Do What You Enjoy

The right career will be something you enjoy.  What poses a problem for a lot of people is that they do not want to be a quitter.  They will stick with something because they feel like they need the money and want to be responsible.  If you are young, don’t do that.  Look for something you enjoy and do that kind of work.  Just be sure that you aren’t quitting things because you do not want to work.  If you simply lack work ethic, it may be better to stick with something, anything, until you learn that.
