Careers and How to Find Yourself
Start out by asking yourself what you want out of a career. Do I want a high salary? Do I want good benefits? Do I want a nice boss? Then ask yourself, what do I like to do?
If you swallowed that first paragraph, think again. That’s exactly how not to find you. The way to finding your career is asking, “What needs done?” If you find yourself angry because of something not getting done, that’s a good sign to look for. Giving service to others is one of the best ways to find out what kind of person you are.
Contemplation
Early in the quiet hours of the morning is the time to contemplate. This does not mean that you think about your career over a bowl of cornflakes before work. It means taking aside an hour and clearing your mind of all distractions. For example, you might focus on your breathing only. This will allow you to get in touch with your whole body. Through this contemplation, you should be able to find some inspiration through connecting with yourself.
Do It
Once you get an idea; do it. It sounds simple, but many people think something is a good idea, but put it off for another day. The worst part is that we can often spend much of our lives living in indecision. You won’t gain much inspiration until you become active in the process. Move quickly by doing what you feel inspired to do. Don’t wait to do what is right. And, when the going gets tough, stick with your inspired visions and goals.
Don’t Ask Others
Nobody can tell you what is right for you. Only you can do that. Part of being confident is having the courage to stand up for what you think is right. People will often try to persuade you because they think it may be helping you. However, this is often a distraction, because your real issue is to listen to your own heart.
Don’t Ignore Passion
Ignoring your heart can often lead to stress. High levels of stress have been known to be a precursor for heart disease, diabetes, and cancer. Ignoring yourself is indeed detrimental to your health.
