Career Planning
You need to plan for a career. As Robert Frost said, “Two roads converged in the woods and I am better off for taking the road less traveled”. One of the best things I ever heard is that if you don’t plan for the future any road will do. Did you know that most people spend more time planning their first vacation than their career?
How You Can Know You Are on the Right Path
People have a tendency to pick something easy, instead of what they should be doing. If the path looks like it’s kind of hard and all uphill then that’s a good sign you are doing the right thing. There are so many people that never do what they want because it’s hard to do the right thing.
Teenagers
Teenagers should be actively experimenting with jobs to find out what they like. These formative years are crucial to getting a good outcome. There are a lot of older people that are still trying to go through the teenager process. And, because it’s so much harder to do this as an older adult, the process is lengthier and more painful.
Young Adults
By the time you are a young adult, you should have some real ideas about what you want to do with your life. There was a study done on people that planned out their lives in detail. What the study found is that those that had their lives planned, in detail, made 10 times the amount of money as other people. Now that’s reason to plan.
Mid Life Adults
By now, you should be well on your career plan. You goals may be different now, like moving up the corporate ladder or getting a mentor to work with you. In this stage of life, it is important to develop trust and friendships with coworkers. This will help you move up within the company.
Senior Adults
At this point in life, if you have done the right things then you should be able to work for enjoyment or just be on vacation. However, this is not always the case. For example, I know of a woman whose husband had died. At an old age she went to college and graduated in accounting and got a good job. The point is, don’t give up because you are older.
